eCommerce Profitability: Technology Strategy

DUMAC Business Systems and Rosie have teamed up to make implementing eCommerce at your retail location easier and less expensive than you ever thought it could be. DUMAC's RORCv6 point-of-sale system offers a direct integration to Rosie's eCommerce platform meaning retailers can implement online shopping directly through their POS system and save significantly on labor costs. As a retailer, this means you can bypass nearly the entire implementation process of typical eCommerce setups, saving months of time and expense you would need to incur with other providers.

DUMAC's POS systems are installed in more than a thousand independently owned grocery stores across the United States. The company recently acquired Retailed Owned Research Company (RORC) and its POS system by the same way, and RORC is now rapidly growing in usage across the US as retailers recognize its modern feature set, ease of use, and competitive price point. Retailers can also often re-use their existing POS hardware, further reducing their costs.

For retailers using both RORC and Rosie, the partnership provides retailers with the following benefits:

  • Pricing Integrity, including seamless, near real-time price changes updates
  • Ease-of-implementation - direct connection between eCommerce and POS data
  • In-aisle scanning
  • Product picking process
  • 360-degree data flow via a "Completed Transaction Feed." Retailers won't need to take an online order and scan it through the front-end registers after it has been picked. Data flows directly between the order picking interface and RORC, enabling sales reporting and eliminating duplicate work
  • This 360-degree data flow also solves the challenge grocers face in setting up online shopping; the time-consuming, error-prone process of entering price, product, and related information for each store location and ensuring integrity of the data between the POS and eCommerce systems
  • The RORCv6 and Rosie solution takes up to 50 percent less time to implement with a streamlined, templated approach for receiving and inputting all information necessary to get accurate products and prices online faster.
The above capabilities result in a 30% to 50% reduction in total labor costs for retailers.
On average, labor rates per hour in the independent grocery business are between $12 and $19. If a retailer saves 30% of their time per order via the Rosie and RORC partnership, they will save $6 per order, or $3,000 in labor per month with 500 orders/month.

Rosie's one-of-a-kind completed transaction feed with RORCv6 has reduced our labor time by 20-35 percent depending on the order size. We've reached our goals for growth quickly and this success is due to our partnership with both DUMAC for point-of-sale and Rosie for eCommerce."

By partnering together, DUMAC and Rosie have developed a proprietary new approach that solves challenges associated with eCommerce and enables retailers to rapidly implement low-cost, high quality and high growth eCommerce programs. "For independent grocers, it's not a question of should they offer eCommerce, it's questions of how and when," said Phil McCarthy, vice president of DUMAC. "At the same time, launching an eCommerce program can be incredibly daunting. By integrating Rosie with RORCv6, we're taking out the guesswork and obstacles that grocers typically experience when starting an eCommerce program."

Combining the technology partnership of Rosie and DUMAC with Rosie's existing expertise in operations, marketing, and consumer engagement creates a complete, turn-key eCommerce program that can enable any grocer to successfully implement online shopping for their customers.
